First impressions are so important. And that's why I decided to finally put some attention on building a welcoming transition from the outside in.
We moved into our new-ish home 2 years ago when I was 8 months pregnant. There was so much to do before our little baby Jace was due. We literally moved in, had our baby shower/ housewarming party for 100 people the next week, built our master bedroom closet shelves so we could hang up our clothes, and put together the baby's nursery all within a month's span. (By the way if you can't read between the lines, I would never recommend moving while preggers. That was CRA-ZY!)
We've made many major improvements to the house since then, but always somehow neglected the entryway...until now. It cost me nothing except 15 minutes of my time to borrow a few things from our kitchen and family room.
The wood bar cart from IKEA was purchased a few years ago, which I recently distressed. Like a cat with nine lives, it has served us for multiple purposes including a mini pantry for our condo, a mini bar, and kitchen island. Now, it's morphed into a shoe/ purse rack so guests have a spot to put their things as they enter. Talk about a total workhorse. For more multi-tasking furniture ideas, I've written about other pieces I love in a post here.
I love add texture with natural fibers to give a space some warmth. The gorgeous Native American papago basket was a freebie. I found it while clearing out my old tenant's stuff that she had left behind. One woman's trash is another one's treasure, right?! My husband loves that he now has a place to put down the mail & his keys.
Live plants are pretty, but sometimes it's too much maintenance. I found that faux plants are the next best solution. I recently was able to source these faux succulents, and have launched a new Etsy store called Flowers Fauxever so I can share my faux floral finds with you.
It's amazing what a little time and creativity can do to transform a space.

BEFORE :: This is what our foyer had been like for the past 2 years. While it was almost completely bare, I love all the architectural details. The arch, the trim around the doors and the hexagon-patterned hardwood floors are all part of the home's original design.
