Who doesn't like shopping for a good deal?
If there's a way that I can save money by stacking coupons with sales promotions, AND get cash back, it's a successful shopping trip. Ebates is my go-to website that helps me do just that. Since 2014, I've saved hundreds of dollars in cash back rewards.
What is Ebates?
Ebates is a company that gives you cash back every time you shop online or in-store with any of their 2,000+ affiliated partners. Major brands like Amazon, Target, Macy's, Expedia, & Best Buy pay Ebates a referral fee. Ebates then shares part of the referral fee with you whenever you shop through them. You typically earn between 2-10% cash back from your favorite store, and sometimes up to 40%.
Ebates also helps you hunt for any coupon codes to be applied towards your purchase. The savings on top of more savings really adds up quickly.
Here's an example of how you can maximize your savings by stacking rewards in one transaction.
- Scenario: You're looking to buy an Apple MacBook Pro laptop.
- Retail Cost: $1,499.99
- Savings: Up to $380
- Retailer Discount: Best Buy is having a sale for $1,249.99. (Savings: $250)
- Student & Military Retailer Discounts: Some stores offer up to 15% discount. Check with your store for additional savings.
- Ebates Cash Rewards: Regularly at 3% cash back, but Ebates is running a "Double Cash Back" promotion which means 6% cash back. (Savings: $75)
- Best Buy Rewards: Sign up for free at Best Buy on their rewards program. You earn 0.5 points per $1 spent. 250 points = $5 reward certificate. If you are a frequent shopper, you can earn up to 1.25 points per $1 spent. As a first time member, you'll earn 625 points. (Savings: $12.50)
- Credit Card Points: Pay with a credit card that offers cash back rewards. I love the Chase Amazon Visa because I get 3% cash back at Amazon, 2% at gas stations/ restaurants/ drugstores, and 1% on everything else. (Savings: $12.50)
- Discounted Gift Cards on Raise: Raise is a mobile app where individuals can buy or sell unwanted gift cards at a discount. Depending on the store you select, your savings can range on average 1-10%. Popular stores like Best Buy greatly valued, and are generally marked down at a lower discount. Even at a 1% discount on a value total of $1,250, it's still money saved. They are also a participating Ebates retailer offering another 1% cash back. It used to be that Ebates was a cash back rewards program only for online shopping. They now offer cash back for in-store shopping too.

With no membership fees, this is FREE money in your pocket. The savings justifies buying that extra pair of shoes, right? Totally.
Is It A Scam?
Nope, this company is legit. Listed under the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Ebates has been around for over 19 years and has an A+ rating. The website has paid over $325 million in cash to its members. Ebates has partnered up with just about every major retailer that you can think of.

Getting Paid
Ebates pays out cash back rewards every 3 months based on purchases posted from the previous quarter. As long as you earn a minimum of $5.01 cash back, you'll be able to claim your payment with the 3 following options:
- Big Fat Check: Ebates will send you a paper check via mail.
- Paypal: You can transfer your cash back rewards directly into your Paypal account. The sender's fees are on the house. There's no extra cost to you.
- Charity/Organization/Family Member: Ebates can also help you gift your cash back rewards to a person or entity of your choice.
